Japanese Food

Japan has all kinds of unique and amazing foods in all kinds of types and sizes, from small snacks up to full sized meals and such. While I was in Japan I had the chance to try a few different Japanese products including western food with a Japanese spin on it. Here are my recommendations.

Savoury Food

Kobe beef and side dishes makes for a delicious and filling meal.

GoGo Curry: An amazing curry at a great price ($7-$10 depending on size) that will have you coming back for more. I visited this place often when there as the curry there is so delicious.

Yoshinoya / Nakau: Beef bowls, Japanese curry, various noodles and soups, karaage (fried chicken) and many more delicious menu items can be purchased at these, all at a modest price.

Takoyaki: Fried Octopus and batter rolled up into a ball to make one popular delicious snack. If you are visiting Osaka, consider a visiti to Dotonbori, as Osaka is where Takoyaki was invented and Dotonbori is a great place to enjoy some good Takoyaki, drinks and have a great time.

Kobe Beef: A juicy succulent cut of beef with some side dishes and dipping sauce, that all adds up to one very delicious meal. Price for a set meal depends on the quality of the cut you order, but even cheaper cuts are still high quality with just the right amount of fat, while still being lean and juicy.

Sweet Food

Daimaru and other shopping centres have all ranges and vartietys of sweet treats including unique Kitkat flavours.

Baskin Robbins: Familiar flavours plus seasonal and exclusive flavours of ice-cream can be found.
I myself tried strawberry banana and green apple watermelon.

Taiyaki: Fish shaped cake filled with cream or chocolate.
There is also savoury variations of these to which can also include red bean paste.

Confectionary: Chocolates, candies and all kind of snacks can be found everywhere in Japan.
I recommend Welch's grape soda candies and blueberry lollies.

Kit-kat: Each store has many unique flavours and each region also has it's own special flavour to.
You can even find Wasabi and Sake flavoured if you want to be adventurous.

Beverages

Dr Pepper is found all over Akihabara vending machines and even cheaper at Don Quixote.

Matcha and Green Tea: Both of these are a unique Japanese tea with nice flavours and are soothing.
Matcha tea is very enjoyable when made and consumed at a traditional tea ceremony.

Sake: Sake has a nice smooth taste and goes down well with a good meal.
It's staple drink enjoyed all over Japan at traditional pubs, bar and restuarants.

Bubble tea: Japan has many bubble tea places with all kinds of flavours and variations.
I particularly enjoyed the lychee one I ordered at the Square Enix Cafe.

Dr Pepper: Popular cola drink with a hint of cherry flavour. I had many of these while I was there.
You can find this easily all over Akihabara in vending machines and cheaper still at Don Quixote.
