Capcom and Sega in Japan

Capcom and Sega are both very popular video game companies in Japan with both having multiple video games franchises that sell millions while also having a ton of merchandise, pop culture and special events that are even more popular. Recently I had the chance to attend both Joypolis (Sega theme park on the man-made island of Odaiba) and the Capcom Bar (based in Shinjuku). Unfortunately the Capcom Cafe was a little far out for me to attend (over an hour return trip to get to).

A staff member brought out two PW figurines and even put on the original GBA music for the series to.

This is honestly one of the best gaming themed cafe/bars I went to in Japan. The staff were very friendly and knew enough english to discuss a bit of Phoenix Wright with me. They have a ton of Capcom merchandise and rare items around (some for sale, some purely for display) while the venue itself has music playing from various Capcom games, and even consoles setup with games you can play. 

The menu itself is terrific with many items from each popular Capcom franchise and even stuff from older franchises, including DMC (old Dante not new Dante). They have everything from savoury snacks, desserts and even alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Here is my opinion on the two items I ordered.

Dante Pizza (or as I call it, Devil May Slice): A slice of pizza just the way Dante likes it. Nice mixture of cheese, olives and salami. I wouldn't mind paying an extra 1000-2000 yen for a whole full 8 slices style pizza of this.
Phoenix's Wright (white) Grape Soda: It was so good I had to order two because honestly it looks and tastes so much better then a picture can show. Perfect amount of sweetness and a great fruity grape taste.


Joypolis

For those who love Sega and Capcom you will definitely enjoy Joypolis!

Just thirty mins via train, south of Akihabara, is a really cool man made island that hosts a bunch of amusements and entertainment type setups. One of them is a really neat place called Joypolis, which acts as a Sega and Capcom amusement park of sorts. Within Joypolis is special attractions and merchandise that you can get nowhere else. 

I enjoyed the Phoenix Wright attraction, even though it requires a high degree of Japanese to play, I was still having fun picking random evidence and pointing at the screen and saying Objection!
I also checked out the Resident Evil 6 attraction which was essentially a much better version of a haunted house with actual actors and a guide that stays in character as you progress through the house while the Baker family tries to kill you.

I also checked out an escape the room style puzzle, in which fans of 999 and Zero Escape series would enjoy. They also had special versions of Initial D, House of the Dead 4 and a pirate themed light-gun shooter which were all in themed moving cabinets (a car in the case of Initial D), which added realism and depth.

There is also a proper cafeteria within Joypolis that has many snacks and beverages you can enjoy. I myself got the Chilli Dog because what else do you get at a Sega theme park than Sonic's favourite treat. While it was a bit more expensive then similar items found elsewhere in Japan (hotdogs typically are about 200 yen while this was 400 yen), it was definitely very delicious, albeit small. I also enjoyed a Dippin dots ice-cream while there as me and my friends had received a coupon for a discount for it.

Persona 5 Cafe and Merch Store In Japan

While in Japan I had the chance to visit two of the five Persona 5 cafes as well as the limited time merchandise store as well.  I was able to make two visits to the Osaka cafe branch and one visit to the Ikebukuro cafe branch.  The merch store is located in Ikebukuro and was only 5 minute walk directly west from the cafe. Persona 5 Cafe All items are presented neatly, while some specific menu items have an object that directly references the game. Here are some items I personally enjoyed from the cafes. Food Leblanc Curry: Just the right amount of spiciness, with a nice amount of meat and not an over the top amount of curry sauce. Blended together to make a nice fusion of ingredients with some small cut wedges on top to add an extra nice touch. Velvet Twincake: One slice was in the style of a vanilla/lemon meringue while the other was a chocolate cake with a crunchy but fruity base. Great way to finish off the meal. Parappa Cafe and Merch store

A short distance from the hotel I was staying at in Tokyo, is the massive Tokyo Skytree Tower. Nestled within the area is a surprisingly big area full of shops, cafes and all kinds of stores. There was also a 20th Anniversary Parappa the Rapper cafe and merch store being run as well. I was able to check out both to enjoy a nice lunch and pick up some cool merchandise too.   Nicely presented Parappa themed menu items which taste as good as they looked. Parappa Sandwich: While you may think it's just a simple sandwich it actually was amazing. The chicken was done very well and the vegetables with it amounted to one of the best sandwiches I ever had. Sunny Funny Egg Muffin: Nicely cooked egg with a great amount of yolk with some extra toppings including ham slices cut into flower petals and a side of fries to  PJ Peanut Butter and Chocolate: A nice sundae style dessert with a good mixture of peanut and chocolate with a cornflake base at the bottom of the cup. Tokyo Xanadu Thoughts and Opinions - Vita version with PS4 notes to come later.

While Falcom are a more niche team then most other JRPG developers, they still manage to make some all-round amazing games that are enjoyable. Recently their titles, both new ones and older ones, are slowly coming out in english more and more. After a two years wait, Tokyo Xanadu, a recent title they developed, was released on the PS Vita in English. The PS4 version is to be released later in the year. This review will focus on the Vita version, but once the PS4 version releases and I have finished all the new content, I will add an extra section down the bottom that will give my opinions and thoughts on the changes, additions and overall package of the PS4 edition. I am very much looking forward to it!   This game might share some similarities with Persona but also tries to be its own thing and does it very well.
